During the holiday season, the Florida Film Critics Circle announced their winners for 2019. While Marriage Story led the nominations, Portrait of a Lady on Fire ruled supreme. The French film from director Céline Sciamma has continued to grab critics prizes despite its Oscar ineligibility. It will not have a chance at that nomination because Les Miserables earned the spot to represent France. Regardless, Portrait of a Lady on Fire remains one of the very best films of the year. It’s exciting to see a group change from the popular consensus and go their own way.
