After the massive success that has been Bohemian Rhapsody, there was never any doubt movies would follow it. That said, Rocketman, which tells the story of Elton John, came much faster than expected. Obviously, the film began production before Bohemian Rhapsody was released, but if the trailer says anything, its that Rocketman could be a much more complete film. Leading the way is Taron Egerton, a young actor that has caught on in a massive way over the past five years. Since Kingsman: The Secret Service released, it was clear this kid could be a star. However, the new Elton John biopic looks to put him into the stratosphere.

The new trailer showcases more of the debauchery that Elton was up to during his rise to fame. The drugs, drinking, and pressure clearly got the world-famous singer. Unlike Bohemian Rhapsody, this film looks to show the R-rated side of John’s life. Even if the end game will be a PG-13 rating, this one looks to push the limits of the rating system. His relationships with men are put forward in the trailer, even showing multiple potential partners.

This looks like a huge showcase for Egerton. The young actor has already begun to push the boundaries of his skill and looks to have a showcase opportunity here. He will actually be singing the songs, which bodes well for the authenticity of the film. The cast features other standout performers, including BAFTA-winner Jaime Bell, Golden Globe winner Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Dexter Fletcher also handles the directing duties on this film. He has become something of a hot commodity after handling the reshoots and last few weeks of filming on Bohemian Rhapsody. He also works well with Egerton, with the two collaborating on the incredibly fun Eddie the Eagle. His other features, Wild Bill (2011) and Sunshine on Leith (2013) both received positive critical responses on their release. Keep an eye out for this one to potentially become a big box office hit, and critical darling.
