Check out all of the TV and film trailers that play during Superbowl LIII between the New England Patriots and the LA Rams. I’ll do a bit of commentary as they air!

Us

Jordan Peele wowed us with Get Out just two years ago, and Us looks primed to scare the hell out of everyone. The visuals alone of this film are stunning. It looks like Peele has evolved as a visual storyteller, shooting crisper, more dynamic shots. Lupita Nyong’o continues to stand out in these trailers. As an Oscar-winning actress, you have to question if she can find her way into next year’s Oscar race. She looks to be in rare form, and with Daniel Kaluuya earning a nomination last time out, don’t be shocked if she builds momentum.

Toy Story 4

This trailer actually gave us a short idea of some the plot of the film. My god what an ask. We get our first peek at Bo Peep (Annie Potts) actually speaking. Seeing what kind of role and gags that Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele are up to looks fun. This could also send the characters down their next adventure. The road trip aspect of this movie looks really fun, and most of all, it’ll be fun to see our favorite toys back on screen.

Avengers: Endgame

The new trailer shows our best friends hard at work, getting ready to avenge our missing heroes. The first couple seconds quickly remind of us the stakes with a quick flash of all dusted friends. A lot is fit into the 30 seconds and the excellent narration from Chris Evans should get fans hyped for the film. It’s great to see the heroes suit up.

Captain Marvel

Higher Further Faster was the mantra of this trailer, and it delivered. The movie, which opens is just over a month, has really begun to push its action sequences. It’ll be curious to see how many illusions to Top Gun we’re going to get because it works great. This remains one of the most anticipated films of the year without question.

Twilight Zone

You know we’re hyped for this. I can’t wait. It’s the return of one of the best anthology series of all time, and with Peele in charge, it looks great. Fingers crossed for this one, I’m just mad we have to wait until April.

Alita: Battle Angel

It’s clear that Fox reversed course on this film. They think they have a wonder on their hands, and based on early reviews, the movie is visually stunning. This looks a lot like Ready Player One last year, a visual masterpiece that didn’t quite live up on the narrative side. Regardless, they’re stressing the reason you need to see it in a theater, and considering James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez are in charge of this one, expect it to wow in that department.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 3

The fake ad for a positive society feels ripped from The Purge. Still, it was fun to see all our favorite characters living in the dystopia that is Gilead. Perhaps the most striking images of the trailer come when we get to Washington, specifically the new “Washington” monument. I’ll be honest, the show has gotten exhausting, despite the high level performances being turned in. It’ll be curious to see how the show bounces back from some lackluster awards turnouts (namely SAG and the Golden Globes).

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

Guillermo Del Toro likes to make monster films, and just because he will not direct does not mean he won’t throw his name on a project. Scarey Stories to Tell in the Dark will take on that mantle, and looks like a modern-day version of Stranger Things. It’ll be interesting to watch when it releases in August and could be a late summer hit.
